Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Department works in partnership with the people of Newcastle to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. We work hard to maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land-use requirements. We work to ensure to protect the health, safety and welfare of all citizens.

Common Violations

Tall Grass/Weeds

Growth exceeding 12 inches in height, except healthy trees, shrubs or produce for human consumption grown in a tended and cultivated garden, unless such trees and shrubbery, by their density or location, constitute a detriment to the health, benefit, safety and/or welfare of the public or community, create a traffic or fire hazard, or otherwise interfere with mowing.

Trash/Debris

Trash is defined as any refuse, litter, ashes, leaves, debris, paper, combustible materials, rubbish, offal, waste or other matter of any kind or form which is uncared for, discarded or abandoned.

Bandit Signs

Bandit signs are typically small and placed in large quantities along public spaces. These signs include political, real estate, developer, and garage sale signs, etc. and are placed upon a public street, public sidewalk, public right-of-way, or on any public building or structure of any kind belonging to the city.
