Community Shelter Rules & Regulations
The Newcastle Storm Shelter is closed to the public when Newcastle public schools are in session.
Occupancy Load – 1,094 persons
Outside flashing “green light” indicates doors are open.
Outside flashing “red light” indicates doors are locked down.
- Occupancy load shall not exceed 1,094 persons
- All occupants shall adhere to the rules and regulations of the shelter and comply with directions given by shelter staff
- Loitering outside the shelter during an emergency incident is prohibited
- All Storm Shelter doors shall be locked down when a TORNADO or HIGH WIND warned storm is within 5 miles of the shelter
- Storm Shelter doors shall not be reopened after being locked down due to occupant safety
- Occupants shall not be permitted to leave after the shelter doors have been locked down until an all clear has been given by the shelter staff
- Arguing and/or fighting with other shelter occupants or shelter staff is strictly prohibited
- Smoking is prohibited on or inside City owned property
- Alcohol is prohibited on or inside City owned property
- Pets are strictly prohibited from entering the shelter
- Notify shelter staff if you need assistance
Failure to comply with shelter rules and regulations may result in removal and banning from the shelter.
