Newcastle to Host 2026 “Too Toxic to Trash” Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event
Published: Saturday, March 7, 2026
The City of Newcastle will host its annual “Too Toxic to Trash” Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Chickasaw Training Center, 400 NW 32nd Street. The event provides Newcastle residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of hazardous household materials that should not be placed in regular trash or poured down drains.
Many common household items become hazardous waste when they are no longer needed. According to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, products such as cleaning chemicals, pesticides, automotive fluids, and oil-based paints should not be placed in regular trash. Events like Too Toxic to Trash provide residents with a safe way to dispose of these materials properly.
“A lot of hazardous materials sit in garages and under sinks longer than people realize,” said Jeannette McNally, Assistant City Manager for the City of Newcastle. “This event helps residents safely clear those items out before they become a problem.”
Accepted items at the event include oil-based paint (no latex), pesticides and herbicides, fuels and oils, cleaning supplies, sharps, batteries, lightbulbs, and aerosols. Explosives and smoke detectors will not be accepted.
Residents may also bring expired or unused medications, both narcotic and non-narcotic. Liquids, inhalers, and medical marijuana products cannot be accepted.
Tires will also be collected without rims, including car and truck tires, motorcycle tires, and agricultural tires under 72 inches. Off-road tires will not be accepted.
During the event, Tri-City Hope Center will also host a food drive, and residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to help support families in the Tri-City area.
Participants should remain in their vehicles while volunteers unload materials. The event is limited to household hazardous waste in consumer quantities, and commercial waste will not be accepted. The City also reserves the right to close early if collection capacity is reached.
The event is made possible through partnerships with the Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, and other local and state partners.
