Upcoming I-35 Southbound Lane Closures Starting August 15th
Published: Friday, August 9, 2024
The City would like to inform residents and commuters of upcoming lane closures on Interstate 35 (I-35) southbound, beginning Thursday night, August 15, 2024. These closures are part of a project being undertaken by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to install a new overhead sign and perform associated construction work. Below are the details:
Schedule and Lane Closures:
Thursday Night, August 15th:
I-35 southbound will be reduced to one lane from 9:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. ODOT crews will be setting up a barrier wall along the interstate to ensure the safety of both the workers and motorists during the construction period.
Friday Morning, August 16th:
By 6:00 A.M., southbound I-35 will reopen with two lanes of traffic, instead of the usual three. This two-lane configuration will remain in place for several weeks as ODOT continues construction on the new overhead sign.
Additional Night-Time Closures:
During the course of the project, there will be additional night-time closures where southbound I-35 will again be reduced to just one lane. The exact dates for these closures will be communicated in advance, and we encourage everyone to stay tuned for further updates from ODOT.
Ramp Access:
Lindsay Street/SH-9E On-Ramp: This on-ramp to I-35 southbound will remain open throughout the entire construction period, ensuring that access to the interstate is not disrupted.
SH-9W Off-Ramp: Similarly, the off-ramp from I-35 southbound to SH-9W will also remain open at all times.
What to Expect:
Potential Delays: Drivers should anticipate potential delays, particularly during the night-time closures and during peak travel hours. We strongly advise planning extra travel time and considering alternate routes if possible.
Ongoing Updates: The City will continue to provide updates on the progress of the work, including specific dates and times for any additional closures as communicated by ODOT.
