City Manager’s Update: Storm Debris Removal and Disposal Process

Published: Thursday, November 19, 2020

On November 13th, Governor Stitt requested a Federal Disaster Declaration related to the  October ice storm for the following counties: Caddo, Canadian, Cleveland, Dewey, Grady, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Logan, Noble, Oklahoma, Payne, Pottawatomie, and Roger Mills. This is the first round of what may be several requests that will be submitted. Oklahoma Emergency Management has indicated McClain County is to be included in the second round of requests that will hopefully be submitted within the next two weeks.

The City of Newcastle is now accepting bids from contractors until December 10th for the debris removal and disposal process. Once the bidding period has closed, City staff will review the bids and submit them to City Council for contractor selection on December 14th. Debris removal and disposal will then begin.

The disposal site remains open for residents who choose to haul off their debris.  Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the disposal site will only be open November 23rd and 24th from 7:30 until 5:00 during the week of Thanksgiving. Disposal site hours of operation will return to normal after the holiday, including Fridays and Saturdays.

The City understands this has been a frustrating time for many residents. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we continue to work through this arduous process.

Have a wonderful evening.
