Newcastle proclaimed "Purple Heart City"

At the regular meeting of City Council, MAYOR KARL NAIL, along with the full support of the COUNCIL, proclaimed NEWCASTLE to be a “PURPLE HEART CITY”. This designation reflects the spirit of honor and respect that Newcastle and it’s residents have for our veterans who were injured or killed in service to our nation.

Members of VFW Post 3608 and the Oklahoma Military Order of the Purple Heart were in attendance to support the addition of Newcastle to a distinguished list of cities along the “Purple Heart Trail”.

The Purple Heart is among the oldest military decorations given to service members, originally designated as the Badge of Military Merit, established by George Washington.
